La Payotte is a restaurant and cocktail lounge bar located in Pointe aux Canonniers, near La Croisette in Grand Baie. Our restaurant, open in the evenings, offers refined semi-gourmet French cuisine. It can also host up to 60 guests in a beautiful, idyllic setting.

Our bar, available from 6 PM onwards, opens onto a 400 m² garden. It's the perfect spot to enjoy our tapas and cocktails in a balinese setting, surrounded by bohemian-chic decor featuring driftwood furniture. This spacious, friendly area is ideal for a lively evening, accommodating up to 150 guests.

The managers of "La Payotte" Mélanie and Morgan: the challenge of a new life

Passionate about life, epicureans at heart and lovers of good food, we, Mélanie and Morgan, decided to leave everything behind to make our dream come true by relocating to Mauritius with the firm intention of opening our first restaurant there. Straight from Nice, France, we fell under the spell of Mauritius over 17 years ago and, after several visits, we finally chose to settle here in 2021, bringing along our two daughters, Luna and Emy.

In June 2023, we discovered a place with incredible potential, introduced to us by our friend Caroline. This immediate crush pushed us to buy the spot on the spot, convinced it was the perfect location for our restaurant. Six months of intense work followed. Surrounded by friends and supported by Jean-Philippe, an experienced builder who guided us through the journey, our project gradually took shape and came to life on December 21, 2023.

Today, our establishment revolves around a semi-gourmet restaurant featuring French cuisine and a lounge bar with tapas. Our bar-restaurant welcomes you in a unique setting, right on the sand, near Grand Baie.

We put all our heart into transforming this space:

  • And a landscaped garden to offer you a true corner of paradise

Our cuisine is a tribute to our Mediterranean roots. Designed in collaboration with Baptiste, our chef, all the dishes in the restaurant invite you to discover authentic flavors in a setting where time seems to stand still.

Our motto, “fer to la vie vine to reve et to reve vin en realite”, reflects this beautiful journey etched forever in our hearts and on the walls of our restaurant. We invite you to share this dream with us, in a place where every detail has been thoughtfully crafted for your enjoyment and well-being.

We are also pleased to announce that we are opening a second restaurant, expected to launch within two months. This new establishment will follow a fast-food concept, featuring a pasta bar and a salad bar, ensuring everyone can find something to suit their taste.

« Cooking is a genuine passion for me, one I feel every time I touch, transform, and prepare the wonderful ingredients we’re lucky to work with here in Mauritius at our restaurant. I believe that creating a dish with passion and love makes it beautiful and delicious! »

Who is your mentor in cooking?

« My mentor is Chef Jean-Yves Johany. I owe him everything. He opened the doors to the working world for me and inspired me. I’ve also had the chance to work with Michelin-starred chefs like Alain Ducasse, Yannick Alléno, Eric Canino, and Daniel Ettlinger, all of whom shared their knowledge, which I humbly try to reflect in the dishes we offer at La Payotte, our restaurant near Grand Baie. »

Can you give us an exclusive preview of the signature dish on La Payotte’s menu?

« For the second edition of our delicious menu, it will be our ‘smoked captain’s fillet.’ Marinated with citrus, served with crispy vegetables and a light cucumber-mint soup, this dish is an explosion of refined flavors! »
